KING was born in Mississippi in 1925 and died at age 89 here in Las Vegas in 2015. He was an American blues singer, songwriter, guitarist and record producer. He had a sophisticated style of soloing which included vibrato, string bending and staccato picking. He influenced generations that followed him and was recognized as one of the most important electric guitar players of the 20th Century! He performed from 1942 through 2014, was elected to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and earned the nickname’King of the Blues’. He helped put Beale Street on the map and he played all over the world performing his unique style and made many TV appearances. He won Grammy Awards and performed in the Vatican for the Pope and at the White House in Washington, D. King collaborated with some of the world’s greatest performers and appeared publicly in Chicago’s House of Blues in October of 2014 for the final time.
