I worked at The Hotel Royal Plaza, (at that time) an Official Hotel of Walt Disney World, in the early 1980s. During that time, the hotel designed a suite for Michael decorated with many of his awards and personal items. You can read about the suite here. We rented the suite to the public when Michael was not there. Michael stayed fairly regularly as did Bob Hope, who also had his own suite there. When they stayed, the hotel did not charge them. Michael loved Disney and having his own suite there likely meant a lot to him. He could be seen around the hotel while staying there, and was often recognized. I recall him hanging out in the hotel’s disco (The Giraffe). He often traveled with his chimpanzee. During one of Michael’s trips, I was able to get his autograph, arranged through the General Manager’s (Gary Cross) assistant. I was present when Michael signed it, so I can fully attest to its authenticity. The year was 1984. I don’t really want to part with this, but it’s time for me to downsize and let go of some things. I hope this goes to a Michael collector. I’ve had it displayed in my home since 1984.
