From the personal estate of James Brown: Offered for sale is a one-of-a-kind, July 19, 1989 South Carolina Department of Corrections Inmate Property Inventory sheet for Inmate #155413, created for and directly hand signed by James Brown. The sheet measures 8.5 X 14 inches. James Brown personally signed the document in blue ink at the bottom, on the’inmate’s signature’ spot. This is the official prison document form required by inmates to sign, in South Carolina Corrections facility. The inmate number’155413′ corresponds to the number that James Brown is holding in his infamous mugshot photo (pictured below). This sheet is James Brown’s personal copy that he signed. The form details a list of all personal property and contraband taken from the prisoner’prior to being placed in lockup. A remarkable and fascinating list of items were on James Brown, fitting to his character as the’Godfather of Soul. Some of Brown’s inventory notes include a 10 gallon hat, make-up kit, a silver braid, wire comb, manicure set, cowboy boots, cassette tapes, three LP records, 22 – 45 records, a “Godfather” shirt, a “Godfather Of Soul” belt and numerous other personal items. This period would mark a low point in Brown’s career, having to serve multiple years in jail for drug, alcohol and other offenses. James Brown rebounded after this prison period, and would return to releasing singles and performing at concerts. His final performance was at his induction into the UK Music Hall of Fame in November 2006, shortly before his passing on December 25, 2006.
